It was 69% of the voters who decided that she should not live, the young woman committed suicide after seeing the result, she had symptoms of depression
Hearing the news that a young woman asked to vote on Instagram if they wanted her to live or not, is astonishing and even more so to see that after the vote she committed suicide.
The young 16-year-old woman opened a survey on social networks asking if she wanted her to die or not, 69% of the voters indicated that she should not live and then she committed suicide
The power of social networks is great and if you have a problem such as depression, it can make your weakness lead you to do irremediable things like this.
According to what was declared by the police of the state of Sarawak in Malaysia, the young woman using her personal account on Instagram and the survey section declared this to be something serious.
"Really important, help me choose D / L" published the young woman, pointing out that the D is for "death" ("death") and the L for "life" ("life").
Possibly many took this as a joke or not, the point is that the voters were present and did not see this as a warning sign, after the vote she ceased to exist.
31% of the people who voted were in favor of her living, the police point out.
MP Ramkarpal Singh called for an investigation "to prevent further abuse on social media in similar circumstances in the future."
Unfortunately, this case is not the first to happen of suicide and that previously gave signs on instagram, a 14-year-old girl did it and her wall was full of strong images that nobody took as an alert.
In fact, the company responsible for the application said that they will soon launch a sensitivity screen that detects this type of photo and can alert.
Ching Yee Wong, Head of Communications for Instagram APAC, said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of this young woman."
“We have a huge responsibility to make sure people who use Instagram feel safe and supported. As part of our own efforts, we urge everyone to use our reporting tools and contact emergency services if they see any behavior that puts people’s safety at risk."
This case is something alarming for everyone and more an alert for parents to be aware of what their children do and publish on social networks, in reality we are all vulnerable and the issue of depression is something that has taken many lives, the Most of us are that we see little.
