142,690 confirmed cases with 16,872 deaths since the start of the pandemic in late February.
The Mexican health authorities reported 3,494 infections and 424 deaths from COVID-19 this Saturday, bringing the country to 142,690 confirmed cases with 16,872 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic at the end of February.
At a press conference, the Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, indicated that a total of 401,755 people have been studied, of which 202,139 have been negative, 56,926 are accumulated suspected cases and 21,740 are active cases of the epidemic.
"Today we had an increase of 2.5% (compared to 139,196 cases on Friday). It is the lowest figure for several weeks," said the official, who asked to take the percentage with reserve since it slows down on the weekend the notification process.

"Although it is the lowest figure (percentage), the daily number of cases is indisputably the highest, the largest since the epidemic began because this is the percentage of a larger number," he explained.
The official pointed out that the States with the highest number of active cases at the country level are Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Jalisco, Puebla and Tabasco.
While Baja California, Chiapas, Morelos, Guerrero, Sonora and Chihuahua are the states that show a decrease in the epidemic in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, the entities that account for the highest number of deaths are Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Baja California, Veracruz and Sinaloa.
He specified that of the total number of deaths, 1,543 are awaiting results to confirm the cause of death.
López-Gatell pointed out that until this Saturday there are a total of 24,164 beds for general care in the country, of which 13,115 are available and 11,049 are occupied and the states that report the highest occupancy of beds for general care are Mexico City (77% ), State of Mexico (75%) and Guerrero (58%).
For his part, the general director of Health Promotion of Mexico, Ricardo Cortés, explained that "there will be no vaccine in a short time," so the best the population can do is continue prevention and hygiene measures.
Cortés pointed out that in the epidemiological traffic light the orange color indicates adjustment and preparation for the return, the yellow is of hope upon return, the green is a new reality and recalled that the red is of maximum care.
Just on Friday, Cortés indicated that of the 32 states of Mexico, 16 entities were in orange and 16 in red.
Mexico kept its non-essential economy closed during the months of April and May, in which it applied contingency and confinement measures to its population and, as of June, launched the stage of the new normal with a gradual opening based on to a four-color traffic light in the states of the country.
