More than 100 countries were affected by this leak, among them Mexico, where 13 million Internet user records have been leaked in a complete violation of the handling of personal data; So far Facebook has paid the least attention to the problem.
This was demonstrated by the spokesperson for the social network Liz Bourgeois, who claimed that it is "old" data and that the vulnerability was already fixed in August 2019, for its part, the digital media Business Insider, affirms that it has reviewed a sample of leaked data and argue that it is real data.
The data was found on a free forum, explained Alon Gal, chief technology officer for cybercrime firm Hudson Rock, who said the database may have been created last January when a vulnerability was revealed that revealed the number of Facebook users phone.
According to the cybercrime firm, a base of this magnitude could be used to carry out social engineering attacks or hacking attempts , so it recommends that Facebook notify its users to prevent future security problems.
