The Mexican health authorities reported 4,147 infections and 269 deaths from COVID-19 this Sunday, bringing the country to 146,837 confirmed cases with 17,141 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic on February 28.
In total, 406,549 people have been studied, of which 146,837 are confirmed cases, 207,076 are negative and 52,636 are accumulated suspected cases. Meanwhile, they mentioned that the active epidemic is made up of 22,398 people, who were infected in the last 14 days.
"The increase on this day was 2.9% (compared to the 142,690 cases on Saturday)," said the Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, at a press conference at the National Palace of the Mexico City.

"You don’t see a trend towards general stabilization yet," he added.
The official pointed out that the states with the highest number of active cases are Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Jalisco, Puebla and Tabasco, while the states with the highest number of deaths are Mexico City, the State of Mexico, and Baja California , Veracruz and Sinaloa.
It reported that deaths went from 16,872 to 17,141 in the last 24 hours.
He recalled that 1,531 deaths are awaiting results to confirm the cause of death and pointed out that the global fatality rate is 5.6%.
Until this day, he said that there are a total of 23,326 beds for general care, of which 12,949 are available and 10,377 are occupied.
The entities that report the highest occupancy of beds for general care are Estado de México (74%), Mexico City (74%) and Tlaxcala (66%).
López-Gatell confirmed that the epidemic "will last a long time" and recalled that it has been estimated that the first wave "may last until October", when the influenza season begins, but there is a prediction "that together with influenza, COVID-19 may extend through March 2021. "
Regarding the epidemiological traffic light that will apply from tomorrow, Monday, he pointed out that, 14 days after the start of the stage of new normality in the country, the current traffic light from June 15 to 21 is with half the country. Thus, 16 states are in orange and another 16 in red.
Despite this scenario, the Ministry of Health authorized this week that hotels are at a level of 25%, hairdressing services at home, and parks at 25% without access to children’s areas and sports games behind closed doors, in addition to other sectors and services with low percentages of affluence.
Mexico kept its non-essential economy closed during the months of April and May, in which it applied contingency and confinement measures to its population and, as of June, began the stage of the new normal with a gradual opening of some sectors of the economy based on a four-color traffic light in the states of the country.
