"It is the second consecutive day that we have with more than 2,400 cases in 24 hours", Mexico has more than 45 thousand positive cases of covid-19
The Mexican Health authorities reported this Friday the existence of 4,767 deaths and 45,032 accumulated cases of COVID-19 throughout the country since the beginning of the pandemic, with 2,437 new infections and 290 deaths.
"It is the second consecutive day that we have more than 2,400 cases in 24 hours," said the director of Epidemiology of the Mexican government, José Luis Alomía, when presenting the technical report of the coronavirus in the National Palace of Mexico City.
On the day of May 14, the health authorities reported the occurrence in a single day of 2,409 cases of the disease caused by the SARS-CoV2 virus.

In the technical report on COVID-19, Alomía highlighted that the accumulated infections that exist until this Thursday increased by 5.7% compared to 42,595 in the previous report.
The official pointed out that of the confirmed universe, 10,223 are patients with symptoms developed in the last 14 days and that they represent the active part of the disease since they can transmit the virus.
In the last 24 hours, active cases of COVID-19 grew by 178 patients, representing 1.77% more compared to 10,057 the day before, explained the Mexican specialist.
Deaths from COVID-19 increased by 290 to go from 4,477 yesterday to 4,767 today, in which there are also 462 suspicious deaths registered awaiting laboratory confirmation.
The health authorities have reported 29,028 suspected cases, 89,631 negative cases and a universe of 163,691 patients studied since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Alomía confirmed a national average occupation of 36% of the beds available for COVID-19 and 30% of the beds that have ventilators to care for patients considered in serious condition.
Mexico City and the State of Mexico are the entities that report the highest number of active cases in the country, with 2,574 and 1,303, respectively, the Mexican specialist explained.
Additionally, these two entities account for 52% of the total of 29,028 suspected cases that are currently had, said the epidemiologist.
Alomía confirmed that since the beginning of the pandemic, at the end of last February, the authorities have carried out 128,253 COVID-19 detection tests and that at the moment there are 101,900 more to be applied.
Mexico will begin to apply on May 18 a series of measures to lift the confinement that has been in force since March 23 from June 1.
