UNAM researcher Margarita Mass Moreno recommended increasing the consumption of garlic and ginger
One of the forms of protection against the coronavirus apart from quarantine is to have a balanced diet that strengthens the body’s defenses.
Given this, Specialists from the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Sciences and Humanities (CEIICH) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), mentioned the diet that protects older adults from Covd-19.
The researchers developed a diet high in antioxidants that strengthens the immune system of older adults, in the context of the coronavirus crisis, since they constitute the main risk group for the spread of this disease.
The UNAM researcher, Margarita Mass Moreno, mentioned:
The diet was specially designed for older adults who live alone and also suffer from a chronic-degenerative disease
That is why he called to consider this eating plan to try to reduce the risks of the immune system from the coronavirus. The most advisable thing is that older adults should increase their consumption of garlic and ginger.
Apart from that they must stay at home and wash their hands constantly. It is necessary that they increase their consumption of garlic because it is a natural antibiotic and add onion, parsley, turmeric and ginger to their food, because they contain high levels of antioxidants and contribute to maintaining a healthy immune system
Another of the foods that are included in the diet that protects older adults against COVID-19 are: fruits; vegetables; plenty of fluids other than exercise.
On the other hand, Maass Moreno pointed out that stress due to home confinement is another factor that can significantly affect older adults and weaken the immune system, therefore it is convenient to seek to do activities that distract the whole family, such as reading, board games or watching movies, apart from applying the diet in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It should be noted that in Mexico there are almost 13 million older adults, in Mexico City, the figure is 1.3 million. It is highly recommended to exercise to prevent muscles from atrophying, to practice some recreational activity at home, to clean surfaces frequently, to have the telephone number of a trusted doctor and to have a thermometer on hand.
